The Show Must Go On: Supporting the Arts After a Devastating Three-Year Hiatus

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a devastating blow to many industries, and none more so than the world of performing arts, theatre and entertainment. The impact on Dama and the theatre fraternity has been particularly painful, with theatre professionals and practitioners struggling to make ends meet and expenses piling up with no income to offset them.

Plans and dreams nurtured for years were shattered in the blink of an eye. The three Covid years have presented Dama with unmanageable challenges and as such, we have great financial difficulty sustaining ourselves. After 29 years of producing more than 50 productions, the thought of giving up and walking away from everything that has been built up is a heartbreaking one.

But then came a glimmer of hope. The Edge and Dato Ho Kay Tat agreed to support Dama’s 2023 fund-raising efforts with two show productions. All That Glitz & Glamour (On The Silver Screen) in April and In Perfect Harmony, Too in August.

This fund-raising exercise is a lifeline for us, to subsist and make a come-back to the performing arts scene. We seek your help to get back on our feet again. Come and join us for our very first show after the pandemic.

We need your support now more than ever before. All of us in this production has been through so much, and we all need a little motivation to stand up again.

We want to create an awesome entertainment experience for you and everyone else who attends. We want to create sweet memories that will last a lifetime. But we cannot do it without you.

For many of us, the theatre trade is our working career. Our ability to survive and sustain ourselves depends a lot on the generosity of kind souls and well-wishers who love the theatre. Any kind of support from you – be it sponsorship, event hosting, ticket purchases or donations – can help support of the livelihoods of many a theatre practitioner, from production personnel to creatives and performers.
